Sharplin Falls 8th January 2010

Sharplin Falls are not very far from Methven township, and it is about a 45 minute walk to get to them. The track is like a highway, well made and solid. The steps are on the up hill climb, and down as well, had me puffing especially with camera pack on back. The falls were split 2 ways. I have only shown one way. There are beautiful spans of ferns, and the river is a beauty on its own. A place you should go and see.

My Hut Reserve 8th January 2010

This not far from Methven, and it has many tracks of varying lengths. We just went on a short one close to the car park, and the ferns were beautiful along the track.
There is also a very large area full of rhododendrons which I believe were planted by Millichamps. They had finished flowering but would be beautiful to see when all out.

Sunset over Lake Ellesmere, 29 December 2009

I had been to see the sunset from Birdlings Flat on the 24th December (If you scroll down past the Lochmara series, you will see those images), and I had an opportunity to go up to Gebbies Pass, on the south side of the Port Hills with Heather, and look over Lake Grassmere, and once more saw the sunset on the East Coast of the South Island. Since that evening I have been watching the sky, and there have been far better colour and cloud formations, but that is the way the cookie crumbles.!!
